Gender From Here to 2050

GENDERFROM HERE TO 2050
SUMMARY
Thanks for technical progress and democracy, the 20th was the women liberation century. Unfortunately, this assert is only true for the free world area. In many not free countries, women still endure big offences and notably legal inequalities, a status close to domestic slavery and the dreadful female genital mutilations. What is the future? The UN and other world agencies mainly focus on some indicators to follow the progress. Unfortunately, they are not appropriate and mask a gloomy reality. Regarding the future of gender, the 21th will show a dramatic increase of domestic slavery and barbarous habits.
In 2050:-One woman in four will suffer a subordinate situation (Compared to one in seven by 1980). -The world population will include 360 million domestic slave women. -380 million women will be at risk of genital mutilation (80 millions in 1980, 165 millions in 2005).These figures show an expected increase of gender inequalities because the most backward countries are also those which will have the higher growth of population. The only hope could come from a Muslim reformation, but we do not see any serious calls for it. On the contrary, the Islamic surge is annihilating all the progress made in the 20 the century in various regions of the world. It could also influence the gender evolution in Europe through immigration and islamization.

The Class of 2050

15 March 2006
CLASS OF 2050
Discover what schools could be like in the future
By Craig Mcqueen
THINK of a school classroom and it's still the old images of chalk, blackboards and rows of desks which spring to mind.
But as modern-day teachers and pupils know, the reality is far different.
Having a computer in the class is no longer the preserve of computing teachers as all subjects get to grips with modern technology.
So much so, that pupils are now as likely to be surfing the internet using the school's broadband connection as they are reciting their times tables.
Teachers use tablet PCs and projectors to call up images at the front of the classroom at the touch of a button, with the old sound of chalk on a blackboard being replaced by the hum of desktop computers.
For pupils, having your dinner money stolen is a thing of the past thanks to the use of canteen smart cards which can even make sure kids are eating a healthy diet.
And in the interests of security, parents can now receive text messages when their children don't show up for registration.
But if this is the modern face of many of Scotland's schools today, what will our schools look like in the decades to come?
We asked BT futurologist Professor Graham Whitehead to take a look into his crystal ball and predict what technology the schools of tomorrow will be using.
It's his job to look at how modern technological advances can be applied to enhance our lives.
Here's his take on what the for correction. There's no more lines for bad behaviour - the ultimate punishment is disconnection.
"This morning the children are working on foreign language skills, their language assigned by a tutor.
"They wear wireless headphones and enter their own acoustic bubble, hearing the original sounds of the language in one ear and an auto translation in the other.
"The desktop becomes an active area where information is displayed.
"Paper icons appear and can still be moved, edited and deleted, but now it's done by hand gestures and screen touch. A vertical screen at the front of the desk displays a virtual classroom of 2050 will be like for the children of tomorrow:
"Technology will allow kids to do so much more. They gain entry to the school when their implanted ID chip has been read. Their presence is registered, and a message sent to their parents announcing their arrival.
"They place their single e-book on their e-desk and homework is uploaded into their personal working space. A computer-generated teaching assistant checks the work, flagging good examples to the human teacher and poor efforts language tutor who starts the lesson using stored records and works at the level and speed of each child.
"Lunch has taken on a new meaning. The meals look the same, but provide the exact nutritional and calorie content needed by each child based on their record of activities and other food intake reported by the implanted chip.
"Back in the classroom, a new science project kicks off with a partner school in Helsinki.
"The classroom wall, which had been displaying a view of an exterior landscape, suddenly changes and another group of children appears.
"The pupils show each other plants and trees from their countries and experiment with different growing patterns in diverse climates.
"It's a science class, a cultural experience and a language lesson rolled into one.
"Exams are still essential, but there's no laborious crafting of written words on sheets of paper.
"Tests can be taken almost anywhere, even at home.
"The interactive working area enrols the student by chip ID and iris recognition. Voice responses verify that the student is the one who should be sitting the exam.
"Many question why there is still a need to go to school at all. Distance learning done from home is used, if appropriate, when a child has an infectious disease.
"But schooling is more than just learning. Despite all the new technology in 2050, school remains a social occasion, even if sometimes that interaction is through a wall-sized display module."

Family homes in 2050

The Government's Energy White Paper of 2003 sets a target of reducing CO2 emissions by 60% by 2050. The Carbon 60 House addresses all four principles of the Government's Energy White Paper: the 60% emissions reduction target, fuel poverty, security of supply and competitiveness as well as demonstrating the latest modern methods of construction. The house will be built using fast-track prefabrication techniques. These techniques facilitate high levels of environmental performance, speed up the house building process and reduce wastage and defects.
Performance
The use of innovative cladding materials will ensure the structure is highly insulated with extremely low levels of air leakage. These characteristics will dramatically reduce energy consumption compare with conventionally built homes. A major characteristic feature of the house is the integrated conservatory or sun space. This part of the house is the energy cell which provides free passive solar heating in the winter as well as facilitating ventilation and providing high levels of natural daylight. This is combined with a ground cooling/heating system. Air entering the sunspace is first thermally conditioned by passing through earth tubes buried beneath the ground. The earth beneath the house remains at a constant temperature of 12C. The thermal mass of the ground stores energy which is utilized in the winter for preheating and in the summer for cooling. Finally, active solar heating is provided by a solar thermal collector located on the roof. Any additional thermal energy is supplied by a ground source heat pump located in the basement plant room. Many additional environmental features have been incorporated in the house and are shown on the schematics.

Christmas in the Year 2050

"Dad, what is it?" Tom asked, beginning to unwrap more objects - a kneeling mother, her painted face chipped, a lamb, curled forever into itself, gazing upwards. Their dad reached between them and set up the tiny, old figurines on the floor, until they formed a scene. The kids, not knowing how to handle objects (kids mostly played in their heads now) touched the figures and listened as their dad told them of a time when Holiday was called Christmas, and a baby came to ask humans to learn to want not power, or great intellect, but instead love. They pulled an old music chip out of the box, and carefully inserted it into the wall, and strange beautiful music that had words that tugged at their frozen children’s hearts filled the air, and their house suspended over a black river glowed like a thousand suns with warmth, and light, and a dawning. And from heaven above them, God saw this and smiled, and changed His plans.http://www.exhaustedrapunzel.com/20051222.shtml

Sex without children;children without sex-who knows what the future may hold

In the year 2050, thousands of middle-aged women, and some even older, are putting motherhood on ice until the time is absolutely right. Egg-freezing techniques are being increasingly refined. The Pill gave us sex without children. The developed world is heading towards its next cultural revolution — children without sex. The days are past when women looked after children and nothing else. Women have careers now. They are better educated, more affluent and healthier on the whole, and many are now living into their 80s.

Work-Life Balance

In 2050, 40% of women in professional jobs have not started families because of work. 30% of men did not want families because of work. Has the cost of living driven us to become so wrapped up in our work, that it has taken priority over our lives? Are we too concerned with supporting our aging family members that the thought of having children is not an option?
In 2050, we will have the largest number of people over 85. The number of older women will continue to be larger then the number of older men. Poverty in old age and loss of independence will force children to care for their aging parents. The demand on work life is therefore changing to. There will be new work patterns to allow for the changes. The workforce will have flexibility with work schedules as well as ongoing education and exceptional retirement benefits for those who work way into retirement age.
